YAS' GUIDE TO VERSAILLE
Versaille, France is the home to historic and incredibly well preserved Place of Versaille. Without going into a history lesson, this is the most impressive property I’ve ever been to. I’m sure you’ve seen pictures, or even learned about it in school, but it’s without a doubt a must visit place if you’re in the region.
Only a 45 minute train or Uber ride from Paris, Versaille spans an incredible 3 squared miles and was the home to Kings dating back to 1662. We stayed in Versaille for 2 nights after visiting Paris. Some blogs say this is a perfect day trip, but I would recommend AT LEAST 2 nights if not 3. It’s HUGE! It’ll take you one day just to walk through the main palace and one or two days to explore the grounds. Here are a few recommendations and pictures from our adventure.
WHERE TO STAY:
WALDORF ASTORIA is the most convenient hotel to stay in if you are visiting Versaille and in town for only a few days. It’s not only a beautiful hotel, but also has a Michelin star restaurant. There is a walking path that leads you directly to Versaille palace.
WHAT TO DO:
Go on a boat ride in the Grand Canal. So expansive and a lot of fun. Bring a picnic and take in the sun.
Rent a bike and cruise the grounds or ride around the canal. The best way to get around is on a bike given the Palace is so massive.
Versaille Palace - Get tickets ahead of time and tour the Palace of Versaille. Everything is huge and extravagant, but my favorite was the chandelier ballroom.
Tour Marie Antoinette’s Estate and the Queen’s Hamlet - These places are located in a different part of the property than the main Palace. It’s a whole other day of exploring.
Tour the Grand Trianon - Finished in 1687 for Louise XIV, this palace was built with pink marble and orderly gardens as an escape from the everyday life of the main palace.
Take a walk through the gorgeous gardens - Versaille is known for it’s beauty so don’t underestimate the time you’ll spend walking from place to place
Have a wonderful time, if you decide to visit!
